Paint Correction vs Polish: What's the Difference?

A polish refreshes gloss; correction removes defects. Here's how to know which your paint needs.

A polish (enhancement)

A single-stage polish — our Level 1 Enhancement — refreshes gloss and reduces up to ~70% of light defects. It doesn't remove deep defects, but it dramatically improves appearance for paint that's already in good shape. It's faster and more affordable.

Paint correction

True correction is multi-stage. We compound to remove deeper defects, then refine panel-by-panel to eliminate the compounding haze. Our Level 2 targets ~80–89% defect removal; Level 3 reaches ~90–96% for maximum clarity.

How to choose

  • Polish if your paint has light swirls and you want a gloss refresh — especially before a coating.
  • Correction if your paint has visible swirls, water spots, or moderate scratches you want genuinely removed.

The inspection rule

We always inspect clear-coat thickness first. Correction removes a small amount of clear coat — we won't recommend a level that risks your paint. Whatever we do, correction is the ideal preparation before ceramic coating or PPF, because it locks in the finish underneath.
