Paint Correction Before Ceramic Coating: Why It Matters

A coating locks in whatever's underneath. Here's why correcting first gives you years of better results.

The lock-in principle

A ceramic coating bonds to your clear coat and locks in the surface underneath it — defects and all. If you coat over swirl marks, those swirl marks stay visible for the life of the coating. You can't polish them out without removing the coating first.

Why correction comes first

Paint correction removes the swirls, water spots, and light scratches before the coating goes on. The result: years of flawless gloss instead of years of locked-in defects. That's why correction is the ideal preparation for any coating, and especially for our longer-lasting 6-year and Formula 1051 systems.

Do you always need correction?

Not always. If your paint is genuinely in excellent condition — new vehicle, no visible swirls — an enhancement polish may be enough, or sometimes just proper decontamination. We inspect and recommend honestly.

The combined value

Correction plus coating is the most complete exterior strategy: correction perfects the surface, the coating protects that perfection for years. Add PPF on high-impact areas and you have the full protection package.
