What VLT means
VLT (Visible Light Transmission) is the percentage of visible light that passes through the film. 70% is very light; 5% is very dark ("limo" tint).
The scale
- 70% VLT — Very Light: Nearly clear. Common for windshields and front sides where maximum visibility and legal compliance matter. Ceramic films still reject heat at this level.
- 55% VLT — Light: Subtle tint, good visibility, noticeable heat reduction with ceramic film.
- 30% VLT — Medium: A popular balance of privacy, heat rejection, and visibility. Often near the legal front-side limit for sedans.
- 15% VLT — Dark: Strong privacy and heat rejection. Legal for rear sides/rear glass on many vehicles.
- 5% VLT — Very Dark: Maximum privacy. Typically legal only on rear glass of multi-purpose vehicles.
Don't choose by number alone
The right VLT depends on your vehicle class, which windows you're tinting, Florida law, and how much heat vs. visibility you want. Our tint simulator lets you preview shades, and we confirm legality before installation.
