Simple steps to keep XPEL Ultimate Plus looking new for years — and what to avoid.

The first 7 days

After installation, let the film fully cure for 7 days before the first wash. Avoid high-pressure water directly on film edges during this window.

Washing

  • Use a pH-neutral automotive shampoo
  • Two-bucket method with a grit guard
  • Soft microfiber wash mitt, never brushes
  • Dry with plush microfiber towels

What to avoid

  • Automated brush car washes — the brushes degrade the film over time
  • Waxes containing dyes (they can stain the film)
  • Solvents, degreasers, or harsh chemicals left on the surface
  • Pressure washing too close to film edges

What's fine

  • Touchless car washes (rinse-only)
  • Ceramic coatings applied over PPF for extra slickness
  • Isopropyl alcohol for spot cleaning bug splatter

Annual inspection

If your film is part of a warranty-backed program, keep up with any required annual inspections. We can inspect your film and confirm it's performing as it should.
